The Douglas High boys' soccer team came away with the Del Campo tournament in California over the weekend with an even split.
Douglas took a pair of 1-0 victories from Burbank and Colfax and suffered 4-0 and 1-0 defeats to Galt and Del Campo respectively.
"I was really impressed with the kids and how they played this weekend," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said. "It was a really positive experience."
Against Burbank, the teams were headed for a scoreless draw before Ross Gardner played the ball in front of the net for Jeff Crozier, who headed it in for the 1-0 lead with three minutes left.
Vasquez praised the defensive play of Fabian Ramos, Dylan Colbert, Tyler Bankofier and Brian Randall in the game.
He said Christian Salazar, Edgar Arceo and Andrew Andraski were strong in the midfield as well.
After the setback against Galt, Douglas battled with Del Campo despite being down three players (Cole Cline, Carlos Cordova and Randall) with injuries.
Gardner scored the game's lone goal against Colfax, getting an assist from Edgar Gonzalez.
Douglas ran its record to 5-3 on the year and will open league play Wednesday hosting Galena at 3:30 p.m.
