The Coleville library now has their power going and Internet up and running, even if they are still in the midst of school construction. When you go to see them, follow the signs and enter the building at the south door, as the rest of the area is still a hard hat zone. Their regular hours are 8-11:45 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8-11:45 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The newly formed book club will meet 2 p.m. Thursday at the Walker Community Center to discuss their second book, "Animal Dreams" by Barbara Kingsolver. If you would like to join the club, call (530) 495-2788.

A very sad day

Our valley lost a wonderful man last Friday. Bob Dayhoff of the Andruss Motel passed away that afternoon. Everyone who I have spoken with agrees that he was the nicest, warmest person, and he will be sadly missed. Our sympathy goes to his wife, Mary, in this sad time.

Deer hunters barbecue

The Antelope Valley Lions Club will hold their 44th annual barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Walker Community Center. This great meal is a deep-pit barbecue, and will include the trimmings and dessert. The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. They also accept additional donations graciously, as all the money goes to their community efforts and scholarships. There will be some great raffle prizes, including a $1,000 Visa gift card, a hunting rifle with variable scope, a night in Reno with lodging and meals, as well as many, many more items. Be sure to attend, as the food and company are always great.

Flag football

The Coleville Middle School boys had their first two flag football games last Saturday, winning both of them by defeating Lee Vining and Benton. This Saturday, they will play at Coleville, 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., against Bridgeport and Benton. It should be fun to go out and see the kids in action. Hope to see you there.
