Volleyball: Top-ranked Douglas gets past Whittell

The Douglas High School volleyball team was able to rest its starters a bit in a 3-1 win over 2A powerhouse Whittell Tuesday night.


The Tigers picked up a 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-8 win over the Warriors at the Lake to improve to 11-0 on the season.


Senior Jessica Waggoner led the team with 10 kills and seven blocks. Taryn Williams had 10 kills and Jourdan Burke had eight kills, three digs and two aces.


Mysta Townsell led the team in digs (15) and aces (three) while Megan Mitchell had 20 assists to go with four blocks and two kills.


For the rest of the Tiger attack, Shannon Dugan and Christine DuPuis each had five kills, Emily Garcia had four and Bryanna Schinzing had one.


Garcia put up four blocks, Jamie Lorntzen had three, Schinzing had three and Jackie Harper had two.


DuPuis had three digs, Dugan had two, Harper had two, Lorntzen had two, Jordan Marsh had one and Mia Townsell had one.

Rebecca Antti had an ace, as did Marsh and Mia Townsell and Harper tallied 13 assists in the match.


Douglas' junior varsity squad picked up a 2-0 win over the Warriors.
