Douglas County school board candidate Cindy Trigg said two campaign signs on her property off Kingsbury Grade were vandalized Saturday night.
"My gut feeling says it was a prank," she said, "but it dismays me that other signs on the street were OK."
Current vice president of the school board, Trigg is running for reelection in district 3 against Lake Tahoe resident Greg Felton. She said one of the defaced signs was for her own campaign. She said the expletive for a female dog was scrawled across her name.
The other sign was for Democrat Jill Derby, who is running for state congressional district 2 against incumbent Republican Dean Heller.
Trigg said the word "liar" was scrawled on Derby's sign. She believes the vandalism was personal because other signs on her street, including signs for John McCain, Barack Obama and Doug Johnson, were unscathed.
"I wanted everyone to get involved in the election this year, but this is not my idea of getting involved," she said.
Trigg said such vandalism belittles the political process.
"Regardless of party or policy, everyone running for public office puts a lot of time and effort, and money out of pocket, into trying to make a difference in their community," she said. "An act like this is disrespectful not only to the person it's done to, but to the whole political process."
Trigg said she's filing a destruction of property report with the sheriff's office.
"I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, but I can't imagine an adult would do this," she said.
Assemblyman James Settelmeyer reported someone painted a red anarchy symbol on a no trespassing sign and two McCain-Palin signs along Genoa Lane on Monday night.
