Weather forecasters are expecting thunderstorms with dry lightning this afternoon through this evening. Combined with the erratic winds that accompany thunderstorms and generally dry conditions we're facing the possibility that lightning strikes will set multiple fires. The thunderstorms are expected to develop over the Sierra crest this afternoon and spread northeast through the day.

The pollen count for Northern Nevada is inching toward the red line, like those red lines in lots of folks' eyes aren't telling the tale. The latest count is from Sept. 11 from Allergy & Asthma Associates in Sparks. Weeds are the chief contributors. The rabbitbrush is in bloom all over the Valley, and in some parts of the country is known as goldenrod.

Once the thunderstorms are done, temperatures are going to take a dive, with the highs dropping to 76 degrees by Friday. They'll climb back out of the trough, but it will be a while before we see 90s again. Good painting weather.
