Cross Country: Douglas strong at league opener

The Douglas cross country team got off to a strong start in its first Sierra League meet Wednesday at South Lake Tahoe.


The Tiger boys' team beat South Tahoe by one point and ran right past Fallon to open up 2-0 to start the year.


Douglas' Brad Boyd took third with a time of 20:23 on the 3.1-mile course to lead the Tigers.


Scott Lococo was fourth at 20:39, Andrew Cobourn was fifth at 21:01 and Cory Trujillp was sixth at 21:11.


Tanner DeGiovanni was ninth, Jeremy Tigh was 15th, Kory Koskin was 20th, Nickoli Kallman was 23rd, Blake Olson was 26th, Mark Pieters was 27th, Bon Tem was 29th, Cole Sonnemann was 30th and Josh Tigh was 31st for Douglas.


On the girls' side, Douglas easily beat Fallon easily but was narrowly edged by regional favorite South Tahoe.


Douglas senior Taylor Biaggi took second at 23:32 behind Shelby McIntyre (22:06), last year's regional runner-up.


Amanda Boyd took third at 24:00, freshman Sadie Gastelum was fourth at 24:47. Bre Chabot was 10th at 27:42, Shannon Sturgess was 13th at 30:12. Kylen Flannagan was 14th at 32:04.
