Pastor Leo Kruger of Valley Christian Fellowship said he was surprised at the crowds of people who showed up at the Spirit Fest on Friday and Saturday in Lampe Park.
"It went really well. We were surprised so many people showed up," said Kruger. "I'm no judge of the amount but one park ranger said he thought there were between 6,000 to 8,000 people in the two days. We're very blessed for so many to come together."
With the success of the first-time event, plans are to have another Spirit Fest next year.
"We learned a lot " that it was too spread out over the whole park. Next year we'll concentrate things toward the center of the park," he said. "But there were plenty of things to do."
The Puppets and Praise show, the Strength Team show, bounce houses, carnival booths, games and a skating competition were well-attended. There was food, music and a softball tournament with teams from 10 churches.
Kruger said the main goal of Spirit Fest was for people to come together.
"There were a total of 19 churches " 12 were officially involved in Spirit Fest and there were seven pastors from other churches. The goal of churches coming together was certainly met," he said.
"Another goal of the celebration is what Christian life is all about " the fruit of the Spirit. All of the nine were represented. People were actually practicing them. And that was my goal."
