For the second time in as many games, the Douglas boys' soccer team rallied to tie things up late only to see the game slip out of its grasp in the closing seconds.
On the heels of Saturday's 2-1 loss to Manogue, Douglas fell 3-2 to rival South Tahoe in Minden Wednesday afternoon.
"We were just unable to get it done at the end," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said.
"It was my call, we tried to go for the win in both games and it backfired.
"The kids are working their tails off, creating opportunities against tough teams and staying with them. We've shown a lot of character and we're not going to back down from anyone."
Douglas fell back 2-0 early on against the Vikings.
"The shots they scored on were all flat our rippers," Vasquez said. "You can't fault our defense, or midfield or the goalie. South Tahoe had some perfect opportunities and they capitalized on them. It's just part of the game."
South Tahoe only had seven shots on goal in the game and scored on three of them.
"Ivan Gonzalez was filling in for Corbin Zumpft in net and he did very well," Vasquez said. "South Tahoe just made some good adjustments dealing with our counter attacks."
Douglas got on the board in the last five minutes when Gonzalez sent a booming kick across midfield that Edgar Arceo tracked down and fired into the net.
Arceo scored again on an assist from Ross Gardner to tie the game up but South Tahoe put the game-winner in with less than a minute left.
Vasquez noted the play of Luke Prinz and Brian Randall in the game.
Douglas dropped to 6-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Sierra League play with a trip to Carson coming up Saturday.
"We just have to pick it up from here," Vasquez said.
