The fifth annual Bunco for Breast Cancer event is Oct. 10 at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play beginning at 7 p.m. The group costume contest theme this year is "Pink 1950s."

The evening includse a silent auction and the live auction for three Marriott vacation packages. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase the night of the event for a first prize of two nights at the Carson River Resort, second prize of a diamond pendant and third prize of a portable DVD player and case. You do not need to be registered to play to purchase raffle tickets.

Last year's event and raffle raised more than $25,000. This year's goal is to raise $30,000. All of the proceeds from Bunco for Breast Cancer benefit Carson-Tahoe Hospital Cancer Services in Northern Nevada and fully fund the Casting for Recovery program, an annual fly-fishing retreat for breast cancer patients and survivors. Now in its 6th year, the program provides an opportunity for about a dozen women to develop relationships with other survivors while forgetting about their illness and challenges for a few days.

Registration is $30 per person and although sold out this year, contact Kathy Johnson at kathy1.Johnson@ge.com or at (775) 215-1027 to register for next year's event on Oct. 9, 2009.
