You're holding the best medium-sized weekly in the state of Nevada in your hands. That's what the Nevada Press Association said about The Record-Courier Saturday night during the annual awards banquet.
With awards like best front page, best editorial page, best magazine and best Web site, you'd think our heads were swelling a bit.
But we know better than to take too much stock in those honors, as nice as they are.
We realize our entire stack of awards and a couple of bucks would buy us a cup of coffee. That's because all the awards in the world aren't as important as our continued effort to serve our readers.
The readers of The Record-Courier know far more about our community, and hold us to a far higher standard than any newspaper contest judge. Judges don't know how we spell the names of people or places, or if we've got the right day of the week for an event or even if we've got the story quite right.
When that information is wrong, then our readers know it, and shouldn't be shy about telling us.
That's as it should be.
That's why continuing to be your newspaper of record is a greater award to us than anything engraved on a plaque.
Thanks so much for your continued support.
