It definitely snowed in parts of the Valley this morning. The National Weather Service is warning motorists to look out for slick roadways in the morning commute. A cold front will continue moving south across the Great Basin this morning, bringing moderate to heavy snow showers to Western Nevada and the Sierra.
Chains or snow tires requirements are in effect for Kingsbury Grade and Highway 395 between Johnson Lane and south Carson City. The passes are all open, but be prepared to chain up. There was a non-injury accident at Highway 395 and Mica Drive at 5:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes. It's probably going to be a little slick getting through Indian Hills.
Weather watchers reported white-out conditions in Yerington at 5:33 a.m. The Weather Service office in Reno measured 1.5 inches of snow overnight. A wind gust of unknown strength tore up a piece of the Nevada Appeal's roof at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. According to the Weather Service gauge at the college, wind gusts in Carson were hitting 56 mph at around 5 p.m.
