It was time for the first street motorcycle ride of the season for the Nevada Wandering Wheels. The destination was Plymouth, Calif., for lunch at the Incahoots Restaurant Bar and Grill. With our local meteorologist predicting 70 degrees here in Carson Valley, the cold 31 degree morning felt worth the ride. Two sidecar motorcycles and three solo bikes with a Jeep as the sweep " 11 people in all " decided to tour wine country in style.
At 9:45 a.m. with our meeting and breakfast over it was time to bundle up in warm jackets and gloves to head into the snow-packed mountains to get to warmer and greener pastures. We followed Highway 88 to Hope Valley, north on Highway 89 to west on Highway 50 to our first stop on Sly Park Road, then south on the E16 to Plymouth. Something was going on because the streets were full of motorcycles which meant we fit right in. After an excellent leisurely lunch, it was time to fuel up and head out. I was looking for a safe place to pull over and take a picture of the group of motorcycles with a great background.
There it was, not an old covered bridge, but one that would at least make you think about the movie "Bridges of Madison County." Perfect for a photo op. We continued to Fiddletown, Calif., which was having a big event. It was fun to see the town members dressed in old-fashioned clothing.
We ended up on Shake Ridge Road to Highway 88 and home. We went from 31 degrees all bundled up to 75 degrees in Plymouth to windy in Carson Valley. It was a great first ride of the season with about 200 miles under our belts.
Road department
A big thanks to the road department, who has been doing an excellent job cleaning out the drain culverts and ditches here around the Johnson Lane area.
