Softball: Lady Tigers go 2-4 in Vegas

The Douglas High softball team went up against some stiffer competition down in Las Vegas last week and came back with the marks to prove it.


The Lady Tigers went 2-4 for the week, but gained some valuable experience heading into a full week off before the final stretch of the Sierra League season picks up next

Thursday.


Both Douglas wins in the tournament came against Bishop Gorman, 10-0 and 7-2.


For the remainder, the Tigers fell to Foothill (9-4), Palo Verde (15-1), Winslow, Ariz., 3-2 and Coronado 14-4.


Emily Weaver had a monster week for the Tigers, driving in nine runs over the course of six games. She had nine hits, including a triple and a home run.


Stephanie Harper pitched 27 out of 37 innings for Douglas, striking out 22 and walking nine.


Morgan Blomstrom had four doubles in the tournament, Rebecca Trute and Tara Paiement each had a pair of doubles and Harper and Brenna White each had a double.


Other highlights for the Tigers included a 4-for-4 performance from Maddy Gilbert in the 7-2 win over Gorman, a 3-for-3 game from both Paiement and Blomstrom against Coronado, a 2-for-2 clip from Brenna White against Coronado and a 3-for-4, five-RBI performance from Weaver in the 10-0 win over Gorman.


With her two wins in the tournament, Harper extended her school-record career mark to 65.
