Staff Reports
The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park will be open for tours beginning April 22. One-hour tours are 10 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday with additional tours at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The park features buildings constructed between 1857 and 1916.
The main residence was once one of the most prominent homes in Carson Valley. The park's collection of farm equipment and buildings illustrate the Valley's agricultural history.
Park tours include a discussion of Dangberg family history with displays of artifacts from the 19th century through the 1980s, including furniture, clothing, books, dishes, artwork, photographs and phonographs.
The Dangberg Home Ranch was settled by Carson Valley pioneer Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg Sr. in 1857.
By the time of his death in 1904, he had created one of the Valley's largest ranches at 20,000 acres. His children founded the Dangberg Land and Livestock Co., a collection of cattle and sheep ranches, orchards and other businesses that grew to 48,000 acres by the middle of the 20th century.
The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is south of Minden on Highway 88.
Tours are limited to 10 people, but larger groups can request special arrangements in advance.
Tour admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.
