Raymond 'Ray' May

A funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City for businessman Raymond "Ray" May, 68, who died April 10, 2009, in Carson City.

Born Aug. 17, 1940, in Ada, Okla., to Roy and Opal "Bunchie" May, Mr. May lived in Carson Valley since 1962, moving here from Placerville, Calif.

In his earlier days, Mr. May was a boxer and over the years he continued to stay involved in the sport of boxing, even promoting numerous boxing matches. He loved playing tennis, fishing, collecting art, and listening to country music.

Mr. May owned and operated several businesses in both the capital and Carson Valley including the Arco AM/PM convenience store located near highways 395 and 50 for 25 years, and the Minden AM/PM for 21 years.

Mr. May is survived by daughter Paula May Siever of Reno; sons Charles and Raymond E. May, both of Carson City, Lance Thomas of Washington and James May; brothers Robert and Leon; sisters Velma Dickerson and Barbara Silva; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his companion of 20 years Sharon Clark .

Burial will follow the service in Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.
