District Attorney Mark Jackson laid down the law for the county's festival organizers. They'll either follow the festival ordinance as written, or as revised. But there will be no more winking at the law by county officials. About 30 people representing a good 90 percent of the festivals held in the county attended a workshop on Tuesday night.

A potential stand-off situation sparked by two bail agents trying to take a Gardnerville Ranchos man into custody was quickly defused by deputies on Tuesday night. The pair went into the man's back yard and were greeted by a rifle. No shots were fired, and once the man saw deputies he surrendered at about 5:48 p.m.

There's a dusting of snow on the west side of the Valley this morning, but otherwise it appears the roads are clear in the county. There are road controls over Highway 88 from Woodfords all the way across Carson Pass. There are also road controls on mountain roads in north Lake Tahoe and Virginia City. The wind's up in Washoe Valley, so there's an advisory there.

Valley residents should expect scattered snow showers after 11 a.m. and breezy. There's a 30 percent chance of precipitation. The high is going to hit 45 degrees, so bundle up. The long-range forecast is for temperatures to climb to near 80 degrees by next weekend, so enjoy the roller coaster.
