Two truckloads of computers, printers, monitors, copiers, cell phones, copiers and other electronic waste was collected at the E-Cycle Day event sponsored by Soroptimists of Carson Valley and ComputerCorps of Carson City on Saturday.

"We filled up a big moving truck from ComputerCorps and rented a U-Haul truck," Soroptimist member Karen Winters. "People are reluctant to add to the landfills, particularly electronics, so there was a lot to be gained from the event.

"Many people who came by didn't know about the recycling at ComputerCorps and it was convenient for them to bring things here on Saturday."

Winters said the Soroptimists were made aware of electronics recycling at ComputerCorps because Ron Norton, the nonprofit organization's CEO and development director, has spoken at their group meetings.

"The Soroptimist environmental committee considered the recycling day as one of our projects for the year," said Winters. "We hope to do another in the fall. If there's a way to recycle, there's no excuse to do it."

E-Cycle Day was held at Nevada State Bank in Minden and was sponsored by Nevada State Bank, Law Offices of Karen L. Winters, Nanosecond and Soroptimist International of Carson Valley. Members Boy Scout Troop No. 411 helped at the event.
