Heading into its 20th year, the Kids' Fishing Derby finds itself extremely short on both monetary and merchandise donations.
Organizers of the annual free event, scheduled for the first week of June, will be at a number of upcoming local events attempting to drum up support.
They'll be at Wal-Mart on Topsy Lane on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. selling raffle tickets, accepting donations, signing up volunteers and registering children for the derby.
They're also scheduled to be at the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery open house in Gardnerville on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Grand prizes this year include a 150cc quad with helmet and gloves and a pontoon boat.
Along with the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department offices on Waterloo, derby organizers have set up a number of additional registration locations this year. Registration at the recreation department runs through May 22.
Two locations in Carson City -- the Sporting Rage at 4338 South Carson, phone number 885-7773, and the Boot Barn, formerly Coral West located in the Gottschalks mall at 1203 South Carson, phone 885-1481.
The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce will also be accepting registrations from May 25 to 30.
