Have you taken the perfect April photo yet? Last week I saw some lawn men with their huge mowers getting ready to mow lawns with snow on them. How perfect is that for April? Did any of you happen to get that one? Whatever you do have, get it into the museum or the e-mail address below by Thursday, April 30.

If you're a Douglas County Historical Society member and volunteer, don't forget the reception this weekend. We want to take time to thank our volunteers for all they do to support us and keep our museums running smoothly. We couldn't do it without you.

The Genoa Court House Museum opens May 2. Don't miss all the festivities including Dan Thompson, who is there at 11 a.m. to tell all about Snowshoe Thompson's life and adventures. Because this is Student-Senior Day, the usual free admission for students and seniors applies.

The Court House bookstore has its opening sale that weekend and all items will be on sale for 20 percent off for DCHS members and 10 percent off for non-members. Membership pays.

Tickets are now on sale for this year's Historic Barns of Carson Valley Tour. The tour is particularly special because it includes the Dangberg Home Ranch. Douglas County Historical Society members get a price break on the tickets at $20 each. Non-members pay $25. The Dangberg Home Ranch tour is $5 extra, but can be omitted if you wish.

In addition to the barn tours and the ice cream social at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville, each ticket holder receives one raffle ticket. You may buy more if you like. In fact, anyone who wishes can buy raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5. The raffle prize will be awarded at the ice cream social, but the winner need not be present to win.

We are raffling off a framed photograph of Genoa's famous Trimmer barn. Also in the picture is a copy of this year's barn poem written especially for us by Ken Gardner, local resident and cowboy poet. Ken has signed and framed this keepsake and donated it to the museum for one lucky winner. Visit the Gardnerville museum lobby to see this great picture and get your raffle tickets.

For any questions, contact the Douglas County Historical Society at www.historicnevada.org or at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. Remember, DCHS and its two museums in Gardnerville and Genoa don't receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
