The annual Pinenut Cracker mountain bike race is set for May 2 with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the first racing starting at 11 a.m.
To get to the race, which winds through the Pine Nut Mountains on the southeast end of Gardnerville, drive south on Highway 395, turn left on Pinenut Road and drive to the fairgrounds.
All levels of mountain bikers are welcome, including beginners. Four categories will be contested, including pro, category 1 (expert), category 2 (sport) and category 3 (beginners). The pro and expert classes will race 30 miles, the sport class runs 20 miles and the beginner class takes an 11-mile loop.
This year, the club will host a seven-mile non-racer loop for participants under the age of 17.
The course includes short climbs, quick descents, a few rocks and minorly technical features. The race is part of the Nevada Cup Mountain Bike Series.
Cost is $25 to $30, depending on the class.
