Two Douglas County sheriff's deputies were honored recently by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for the number of motorists arrested in 2008 on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Deputy John George had 45 DUI arrests and Deputy Joel Kruger made 44 arrests for the year, said Sheriff Ron Pierini.
The deputies also were honored for their work in alcohol sting operations, targeting merchants who sell alcohol to minors.
Pierini said because of the deputies' vigilance, Douglas County did not have any fatalities in 2008 caused by impaired drivers.
"That's what our efforts go toward " getting impaired motorists off the roads so we have no traffic deaths caused by drivers under the influence," Pierini said.
Nevada had 373 traffic deaths in 2008 and 118 were DUI-related, Pierini said.
Douglas County had five traffic deaths in 2008.
