EDITOR:
Last Saturday, in cooperation with Nevada State Bank, Nanosecond, Boy Scout Troop 411, and my office, Computer Corps and Soroptimists International of Carson Valley held the first eCycle Day in Minden.
We had an overwhelming response from the community; we filled the moving truck provided by Computer Corps as well as a second moving van obtained in the final hour.
I want to thank all the volunteers who sacrificed more than half their Saturday to make this such a success, and to all those who brought in their old electronics for recycling.
More than 150 people dropped off everything from old stereo equipment to cell phones, computers, printers, and copiers, saving our landfills and our environment.
Computer Corps will refurbish usable equipment and recycle unusable parts and materials. The refurbished equipment is distributed to locals and worthy organizations that could not otherwise afford new computers, and Computer Corps volunteers help train others to use and repair the equipment.
As a result of the resounding success of this first eCycle collection for Carson Valley, Soroptimists International of Carson Valley hopes to make this a regular annual or semi-annual service to our community.
