A service will be noon Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, for Douglas High School student Molly Rae Lahlum who died April 23, 2009, in Reno. She was 15. A reception will follow.
Born in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., on July 4, 1993, Molly was "Our Little Miss Independent." She was a member of the Douglas High School and Douglas Dolfin swim teams and Douglas High School Block D Club.
She is survived by her parents Ray and Mary Lahlum of Gardnerville and brother Pat; grandparents Mary (Maisie) and Jack Mitchell of Chicago; and Mary and Ray Lahlum Sr. of Skokie, Il.
She is the niece of Jan Lahlum of Denver; John and Eileen, Michael, Jimmy and Eileen, and Tom, and cousin of David, Christopher, Bridget, Jack and Marty Mitchell, all of Chicago. She also is survived by her aunt and uncle Liam and Kathy and cousins Julie, Kevin, Mike, Kate and Mary Egan, all of Dublin, Ireland.
Molly has many friends in Carson Valley and her former home of South Lake Tahoe. They all know how she lit up a room with her smile when she entered. Friends are asked to "smile to remember Molly" and live her legacy of trying to brighten everyone's day, cherish family and friends and never take a day for granted.
