While some airports are plagued by birds, Minden-Tahoe's pests are of the four-legged variety. The Federal Aviation Administration released its database of reports of aircraft hitting birds. Airport Manager Keith Callman said both airports and pilots can submit information on bird strikes to the database, but he doesn't remember ever hearing of one out of Minden-Tahoe. The FAA database bears that out, not even listing the Carson Valley airport. However, airport workers have had to shoo deer off the runway on a regular basis.

A 34-year-old California parolee who led Alpine and Douglas authorities on a high speed chase is scheduled to be sentenced for felony resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon this morning in District Judge Dave Gamble's courtroom. Marc Dubois of Crescent, Calif., faces up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Whatever moisture was in the forecast has been delayed until at least Saturday as windy weather continues through today. Expect winds 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. As the front passes, expect temperatures to drop a bit, with the low tonight dipping below freezing and the high on Wednesday barely cracking 60.
