Last week, Scarselli Elementary School's community service organization, the Cheetah Club, held a school-wide recycling competition.
To celebrate Earth Day, each hallway in the school brought in bags of plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Students put their cans and bottles on the stage in designated areas, so that students could get excited about the competition. Items were deposited into 50-gallon trash bags to be tallied.
Scarselli's B hallway won the competition, filling 28 bags with recyclable items.
School-wide, students filled a total of 66 bags, each holding 50 gallons a piece, for a grand total of 3,300 gallons of recyclable items.
Plastic was recycled in the bins adjacent to school, and the aluminum cans were transferred to the Douglas Animal Welfare Group's recycling bin.
