The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a hunter safety course on Aug. 15. The next class will not be offered until March.
Class size is limited to 30 students and pre-registration is required. To pre-register, go online to NDOW.org, and click on "Learn and participate/hunter Ed class." If you do not have Web access, call the sheriff's administration office at (775) 782-9900 during working hours and you will be registered.
Completing a course workbook is mandatory before taking the class. The workbook may be obtained at the sheriff's office, or purchased online. Course cost is $5. Course registrants younger than 18 are free, as their fees are paid for by the Carson Valley Chukar Club. Class time runs from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Each student should bring a sack lunch.
The hunter safety course is a certified course, and anyone who passes receives a certificate valid anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. The certificate allows a person to purchase a hunting license. The course covers several topics, including wilderness survival, gun safety, wildlife habitat and conservation, archery, and hunting regulations.
