There was a triple fatal accident 6 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 395 near Glendale Avenue. Apparently someone moving furniture lost part of the load and caused a car to swerve, hit the divider and roll over into oncoming traffic. Three passengers in the sedan were killed. No names have been released.

A boat carrying five people was able to make it to shore near Cave Rock after winds churned up Lake Tahoe and nearly swamped the boat on Tuesday night. The group rented the boat in South Lake Tahoe and were on the Lake when the wind came up. Sgt. Jim Halsey said reported that personnel on scene were told that every time a wave broke over the bow, the boat got lower and lower in the water. They made it to a spot where the water was 5-6 feet deep about 100 feet offshore before they abandoned ship. No one was hurt.

The red flag warning is 2-9 p.m. today, with winds hitting gusts of 35 mph during the day and very low humidity levels. Oh, and even if everyone is very careful with fire today, there are thunderstorms in the equation, too. It's going to get cold on the other side of this front, with the highs dropping into the low 80s and snow levels near 9,000 feet on Thursday night. By the way, that's 500 feet lower than the Weather Service was predicting it would be on Tuesday. Those folks in the high Sierra trying to grow tomatoes, better cover the plants, because they may have a frost.
