DES MOINES, Iowa- Tony Barnette became the first Aces pitcher to reach double-digit victories on Thursday night, as the Aces topped Iowa, 6-5, in game two of the four-game series at Principal Park.
Barnette (10-7) scattered just three runs on nine hits over 7.1 innings pitched to pick-up his team-leading 10th victory of the season.
Barnette allowed just one run through seven innings, before the Iowa lineup came to life in the final two frames. The Cubs scored twice in the eighth inning to narrow the margin to three at 6-3. In the ninth, Iowa pushed across two more runs off Major League rehabber Tom Gordon, making the score 6-5 Reno. Doug Slaten would come on to ultimately record the game's final two outs, picking up his third save and evening the series at a game apiece.
James Russell (2-1) took the loss for Iowa. He surrendered three runs on six hits over four innings of work.
At the plate for Reno, Ed Rogers collected two hits and two RBIs. John Hester singled and doubled, and Brandon Allen extended his on-base streak to 25 games with an RBI single.
