DES MOINES, Iowa- Reno held a four-run lead in the sixth inning, but seven unanswered Iowa runs lifted the Cubs to a 10-7 victory over the Aces in the series finale at Principal Park.
With the game knotted at three through five innings, the Aces exploded for four runs in the sixth, thanks to a solo home run by Brandon Allen and a three-run shot off the bat of Ed Rogers. The 7-3 margin would be short-lived, though, as Iowa rallied for five runs in the home half of the sixth, then pushed across two more insurance runs in the seventh to win the game and ultimately the season series, three games to two.
Scott Maine (0-1) took the loss for Reno after surrendering four runs on five hits in two innings of relief work. Aces starter Hector Ambriz was handed a no-decision, allowing six runs on eight hits through five innings.
The win went to Iowa reliever Casey Lambert (1-0), who came on to retire the final two batters of the sixth inning.
Rogers led the offensive charge for Reno, falling just a triple short of the cycle. Rogers finished 3-for-4 with four runs driven in. His sixth-inning home run was his first of the season. In addition to the sixth-inning homers for Allen and Rogers, Luke Carlin hit a solo shot in the second inning, his fifth of the year.
The Aces now head to Omaha to kick-off a four-game set with the O-Royals. In the opener, LHP Travis Blackley (2-6, 5.32 ERA) takes on Omaha's LHP Lenny DiNardo (7-4, 3.47 ERA). First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. PT and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
The Aces return home Friday, August 14, for an eight-game homestand. For tickets, stop by the Aces Ballpark Box Office, call (775) 334-7000 or visit www.RenoAces.com.
