A 31-year-old Gardnerville man was charged with sexual assault Sunday, accused of putting his hands down the pants of a 14-year-old girl and penetrating her with his finger.
East Fork Justice Pro Tem Paul Gilbert appointed lawyer Kris Brown on Monday to represent Robert Andrew Stevenson who was arrested and jailed on $102,500 bail.
Stevenson's next court appearance is Wednesday.
Stevenson said he couldn't read or write, so Gilbert read the charges and rights waivers.
According to reports, a 14-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy were at Stevenson's residence when the alleged assault occurred.
Stevenson also is accused of false imprisonment because he allegedly refused to allow the teens to leave until they were able to get past him.
He reportedly told investigators he blocked their exit because he was afraid they would tell on him.
