Not a great score

EDITOR:

When is a grade of "64" just wonderful? When you're Superintendent Carol Lark and you're looking for a contract renewal is when.

In reaction to five out of 14 schools getting on the federal watch (out) list, Lark commented things are "looking good" and "We're happy with that" (Record-Courier Aug. 4)

The school district increases its number of schools on the watch (Out) List from two to five in just one year and Lark is "happy with that?"

I personally think it stinks.

Then there are those evaluations which have caused the Nevada attorney general to investigate to for possible manipulation by the school trustees. In student achievement, Lark scored 68.6 percent; in perception Lark scored 76.4 percent; and in progress on priorities, Lark scored a record high of 77.2 percent (communication dated July 7, 2009, from Maupin, Cox, and LeGoy to Nevada attorney general). That is if you believe what the trustees compiled. And I don't.

All of which doesn't even begin to remind people of Lark's new drug-testing policy which discriminates against those in extracurricular activities by not drug testing those that don't participate. I won't be at all surprised to see the ACLU visiting here soon over violations of students' 14th Amendment rights.

With all these things considered, I'd lay you 2:1 odds that President Trigg tries to ram through Lark's renewal. Any takers out there?
