95 years ago

Aug. 14, 1914

As part of the new efficiency program of the Ford Automobile company of Detroit, the present price of all types of the Ford car is lowered materially. All those who purchase Ford cars will receive a special rebate of $40 to $60. Starting August 1st Ford cars in Gardnerville and every other city in the United States will be sold as follows: Runabout, $440, touring cars, $490 and town cars (coupe type) $690. Increased production is given as the reason for the present reduction in prices of Ford cars.


80 years ago

Aug. 16, 1929

The big combined harvester belonging to the H.F. Dangberg Land and Livestock company, was placed in operation early this week on the Buckeye ranch. The ponderous machine which cuts, threshes and sacks grain at one operation will be kept busy for the next week or so. Harvesting this year started earlier than usual, owing to the extreme hot weather that ripened the grain crop rapidly.


50 years ago

Aug. 13, 1959

It's been a long, hot summer thus far at Lake Tahoe, at least the hottest in 15 years. There were 18 days in July in which the temperature at the Glenbrook weather station exceeded 90 degrees.

Aug. 9, 1984

History will be made when the Carson Valley Inn opens its oak and beveled glass doors Friday. The Inn, Carson Valley's first hotel-casino, will give Valley residents and other customers a look at its 5,000-square-foot gaming area, a cabaret and a 24-hour restaurant designed as a coffee shop by day, a dinner house by night.

Owners Patrick and Jeane Mulreany, Smith Valley residents who made their fortune in California's Silicon Valley when they helped found what is now Zebec Corp., will cut the ribbon Friday night.

Aug. 11, 1999

Photo caption. Skate jam action. Rickey Haugen shows off his skateboarding skills at the most recent Skate Jam, held Saturday at C.C. Meneley Elementary School. The event was designed to give skaters a safe, legal place to practice and also to raise funds to build a proposed permanent skate park in the Carson Valley.
