Chautauqua and stargazing are some of the events coming this month at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, 1450 Highway 88, Minden.
Anita Watson gives a Chautauqua portrayal of Nevadan Mary McNair Mathews in a free presentation, 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Some chairs available.
Watson writes about Nevada history and has presented Chautauqua performances for more than 10 years. She plays Mathews, who moved to Virginia City in 1869 and remained on the Comstock nine years - running a lodging house and school, working as a nurse and seamstress and being active in the community in temperance activities and in a soup kitchen.
A free stargazing party is 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
Members of the Astronomical Society of Nevada set telescopes up to view Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, a comet and galaxies, star clusters and nebulas. You're welcome to bring your own telescopes. Remember bug repellent, bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a jacket.
Another stargazing event is 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa. Information, Park Interpreter Mark Jensen, dangbergranch@parks.nv.gov or 783-9417.
