OMAHA, Neb.- Reno clawed back from a 3-run deficit Tuesday night, scoring five times over the final four innings to capture the 6-4 win over the Omaha Royals in the penultimate game of the series at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The Aces shutout Omaha in each of the first two games of the series and kept the Royals off the scoreboard on Tuesday until the fifth, when they pushed across four runs to take a 4-1 lead. But Reno responded immediately, scoring once in the sixth, three times in the seventh and adding an insurance run in the ninth to run away with its third-straight win.
Aces starter Tony Barnette took a no decision, exiting after allowing all four runs in the Omaha fifth. The Reno bullpen was dominant on Tuesday, though, as three relievers combined to keep the O-Royals scoreless over the game's final four frames. The win went to Jose Marte (3-1), who struck out three over his two innings of work. Reid Mahon picked-up a hold, and Doug Slaten recorded the final four outs for his fifth save.
The loss fell to Omaha's Chris Hayes (1-5), who allowed three runs in an inning of work.
At the plate for Reno, Brandon Allen finished with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Ed Rogers, Luke Carlin and Cole Gillespie each chipped in two hits apiece. Chris Roberson stole a team-record three bases.
The series comes to a close on Wednesday from Rosenblatt Stadium. RHP Seth Etherton (9-7, 5.07 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Omaha counters with RHP Brandon Duckworth (3-6, 5.36 ERA). First pitch is set for 10:05 a.m. PT and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
The Aces return home Friday, August 14, for an eight-game homestand. For tickets, stop by the Aces Ballpark Box Office, call (775) 334-7000 or visit www.RenoAces.com.
