The members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Carson City, announce the dedication of their church at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 29.

Christian Science churches around the world are dedicated when they are free of all debt.

The community is invited to attend the dedication service, tour the church and enjoy refreshments. The service includes readings from the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings, including the denomination's textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The ceremony also features music and an historical presentation.

The church was established to serve Carson City, Carson Valley and surrounding communities and began holding services in 1942 at their Minnesota Street location.

Groundbreaking for the new church was Sept. 16, 2004. The contractor for the project was Bob Schmitt of Maxim Construction, Inc., the site engineering was designed by Resource Concepts Inc. and the landscape designed by Sandra Wendell. The first church service and Sunday School was held in the completed church July 3, 2005.

The Christian Science church is committed to spiritual healing based on the words and works of Christ Jesus. Sunday services and Sunday school for students up to age 20 are 10 a.m. Sundays with Wednesday testimonial meetings at 7:30 p.m. The Wednesday meetings provide members and guests opportunities to share experiences of gratitude for spiritual healing and inspiration based on the study and application of Christian Science.

The church also maintains a public reading room, which serves as a bookstore, reference library and offers a quiet place to study and pray. Attendants are available to answer questions about Christian Science.

The reading room is open 4-5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 7-7:25 p.m. Wednesday. Childcare available.

The public is invited to he Aug. 29 dedication ceremony, attend church services, Sunday School and use the reading room. The church is at 110 Clear Creek Avenue, just east of the junction of highways 50 and 395. Information, 883-2178.
