At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, the River Ministries will be hosting a potluck lunch at the Walker Community Center. You don't need to bring any food for it, and there will be no charge for the lunch. Prior to that time, their regular Sunday services will be at the community center, 9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend either or both events. It will be a nice time to get together with everyone, so try to attend.
School is starting
This Friday, the Coleville schools will begin their school year with a minimum day. Now that the kids will be out and about, both waiting for their bus or around the school, please watch for them when driving around the area.
High school football
The first league game of the year will take place against Smith Valley at 1 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Coleville High football field. Please go enjoy the fun of their games, and root them home a winner.
Relay for Life Poker Night
Last Saturday evening was another fun poker night fundraiser for the American Cancer Society sponsored by our local Relay team. They will have a few more fundraising activities during future months, so please try to give them your support. They really appreciate the backing they have received from the community for their efforts against cancer.
Cemetery plaque
The Antelope Valley Cemetery Committee recently installed a plaque in memory of Joseph P. Carney, who acquired the land over 100 years ago by U.S. Patent. It is really interesting to learn that the oldest grave at the cemetery dates back to 1865. There is a lot of history here.
