Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., will speak in Carson Valley on Sept. 2 at the Douglas County Republican Women luncheon.
Heller was elected to represent Nevada's Second Congressional District in 2006 after serving three terms as the Nevada Secretary of State and four years in the Legislature.
Heller was one of the few congressman to vote against the bank bailout last year.
"My No. 1 priority in Congress is to turn our economy around and get Nevadans back to work," he said in a recent statement. "Despite claims that the stimulus bill would provide an 'immediate jolt' to our economy, an additional 2.8 million jobs have been lost since its passage. A total of 15 states, including Nevada, now have unemployment rates higher than 10 percent."
He has continued his opposition to government involvement in the private sector.
"Big government and record debt is not the answer to fixing our economy. A real stimulus package would have expanded tax relief and included a housing fix," he said.
The luncheon will be at the Carson Valley Inn starting at 11 a.m. with a social and a sit-down lunch at 11:45.
