The first Mothers Against Drunk Driving Family Festival sponsored by Carson Valley Medical Center is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Minden Park.
MADD Nevada hosts this family day to remind the community of MADD's mission to stop drunk driving, support victims and prevent underage drinking.
Entertainment includes country western music by Michael Edward O'Connell, contemporary music by Mike Rottmann, original music by Vanessa Littrell and Living Picture Show and Celtic music by the Ragged Rogues.
The event features wares for sale by local artists, crafters and businesses, activities for children and adults, and information on nonprofit organizations' services. The East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts' smoke house will be on display and local interlock providers will be available to demonstrate the latest technology in MADD's fight against drunk driving.
Food, drinks and desserts from Russell's Mercantile will be available. Speakers include Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini and representatives from the Nevada Highway Patrol.
According to Assistant Development Officer Linda Finch, MADD has chosen a family festival to set an example that fun can be had without the use of alcohol.
"As parents set an example for their children MADD is trying to set an example for the community," she said.
