A Carson City man who forgot he was a methamphetamine addict back in February is scheduled to go before Judge Dave Gamble this morning for a probation violation. Joshua Rogers, 32, was sentenced to five years probation for stealing merchandise from a north county department store in October 2004.

School started on Monday with a minimum of struggle. I got caught on Highway 395 when Carson Valley Middle School let out. People just stop in the middle of the highway and let the buses come out and cars turn in to pick up the kids. It restores my faith in humanity. It also serves as a reminder not to go out around 11:20 a.m. when the high school lets out for lunch and 2 p.m. when the middle school is emptying out.

Sunday's rain did a pretty good job of dousing the 10,670-acre Hoyt fire near Cold Springs. Officials estimated that the fire would be surrounded by Monday night. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the fire appears to have been caused by people. A single-engine air tanker crashed while fighting the fire, killing the pilot.

The weather today will be sunny and warm, with the high temperature approaching 90 degrees. We'll see 90s through the rest of the weekend and into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
