EDITOR:
Does Gardnerville really need a Walmart? "A plan of prosperity" for who? If this plan is a concern of yours or if you wonder why the general public was left out of the loop come join me at the town board meeting 4:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the town office at 1407 Highway 395.
Walmart claims it will bring an estimated 325 jobs to our community. My guess is the pay will be approximately $8 per hour with probably just enough hours per employee to not have to pay benefits. Well, I wonder how many of our locals will lose their jobs when Walmart moves into town? What is this going to do to our standard of living, home and land values?
How can most of our local businesses compete against such a giant? We already have a Walmart in Douglas County, do we really need another? Scolari's, Smith's, Raley's, Lira's Market, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Les Schwab, One Stop Tires, All American Tires, Tires Plus, Ace Hardware and Meek's (just to name a few) are all local businesses that have existed in our town for quite some time and will now be seriously affected by this development. Let's join together one and all. Don't the people of Gardnerville and Minden have a say in the development of our community? Please plan on attending Sept. 1.
