After blowing through pool play without losing a single game, the Douglas volleyball team ran into a wall in the first round of championship bracket play at the Las Vegas Invitational over the weekend.

Douglas suffered a string of three-consecutive missed serves against Huntington, Calif.'s Marina High School and lost 24-26, 26-24, 17-19, dropping to the Silver Championship division.

The Tigers bounced back to defeat Reed in two games, Golden Valley, Col. in three and won the bracket championship 25-14, 25-21 over Westlake out of Ventura, Calif.

Douglas opened the tournament beating Pahrump (25-22, 25-14), Rancho (25-10, 25-20), Arbor View (25-15, 25-15) and Westlake (25-18, 25-17).

"We just lost (against Marina) because of missed serves," Douglas coach Suzi Townsell said. "Three in a row. It's such a mental learning experience for the team."

Mysta Townsell was named to the all-tournament team for Douglas.

Douglas hosts rival Reno High School Thursday at 6 p.m.
