Basketball: JV Tigers open season 3-0

The Douglas High junior varsity boys' basketball team got off to a solid start to the 2009-10 season over the weekend, going 3-0 at the Sierra vs. High Desert Tournament.


Douglas opened the season with a 92-35 win over Spanish Springs. Jake Tessmann had 19 points and five steals, Trevor Shaffer had 16 points, Connor Hughes had 15 points and four assists, James TenBroeck had 10 points and Nate VonAhsen scored 10 points to go with five rebounds and seven steals.


The team was 4-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc and 15-of-17 from the free-throw line.


The Tigers then beat McQueen 67-55. Shaffer had 19 points and eight rebounds, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.


Tessmann had 12 points and Hughes had nine points, three assists and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.


Matt Wylie scored nine points and had six rebounds, also going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.


The team was 21-of-33 from the floor and 3-of-5 from 3-point range.


Douglas wrapped up the tournament beating Hug 70-58.


Shaffer scored 26 points, had nine rebounds and swiped five steals.


Tessmann scored 22 points and had six rebounds, Wylie scored eight points and had five steals and Hughes dished out nine assists.


The team had 22 steals in the game. The team shot 22-of-51 from the floor and 3-of-7 from 3-point range. They also went 19-of-29 from the free-throw line.
