Members of the 4-H Teen Institute hosted Support Our Troops night at 4-H Community Club night on Nov. 16. More than 150 participants showed their support by bringing items to fill care packages. Members also wrote letters and drew pictures to include in the packages. In all, they filled 32 boxes to go to local troops from Douglas County who are serving overseas.
"This is fun! I want to tell our troops thank you for all of their hard work," said 4-H members Liam and Griffin Allen.
"We wanted to do something to let the troops from Carson Valley know that we are thinking of them," said Briana Rutherdale.
The next community club is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. It is Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. It will be a live performance of cultural rhythm and dance from around the world. Liz Broscoe and her drum and dance performers will present "A Celebration of Culture." Youth participants will make rhythm instruments and be a part of this interactive performance. This event is free and open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
