Hooray for the arts

EDITOR:

I am so excited about the all the concerts being sponsored by the Carson Valley Arts Council. It's great to have such talented artists come right to our community. I appreciate having these groups performing locally so we don't have to drive in the dark up to Lake Tahoe and Reno.

The Bearfoot Bluegrass Band that performed at the CVIC in October was an incredible group of skilled musicians that was on tour from Alaska. They told wonderful stories, sang beautiful songs and played delightful music on their array of stringed instruments.

Now I can't wait to hear the upcoming Lisa Dawn Miller concert on Dec. 3. Her music is reminiscent of legendary vocalists from the past, but her sound is very much of today. Ms. Miller is the daughter of legendary songwriter Ron Miller who wrote "For Once In My Life," "Touch Me In The Morning" and other great hits. Her music is rich, sweet and passionate and she sparkles with enthusiasm on stage.

Upcoming on Jan. 22, we can look forward to the Fishtank Ensemble from the Bay Area. This group leads their audience in a high-energy, cross-pollinated variety of gypsy music. From California, they bring their unique blend of Romanian, Gypsy jazz, Flamenco, Balkan, Klezmer and Tango influenced music to the world. This band includes two explosive violins, the world's best slap bass player, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, trombone, opera, jazz and gypsy vocals, accordion and one little banjolele. Everyone of all ages will love this intoxicating mix of music. Mark your calendar now and gear up for another wonderful evening of entertainment and the CVIC Hall sponsored by the Carson Valley Arts Council and a dedicated group of volunteers.
