District Judge Michael Gibbons continued a probation violation hearing until Dec. 7 for a Gardnerville man who allegedly failed to make restitution to the 24-year-old man whose leg he set on fire as a prank.

Gibbons delayed the hearing for Trent Clanton until his lawyer, Tod Young, can be present.

Clanton pleaded guilty to mayhem for the incident that occurred in April 2007 at a party in the Pine Nut Mountains.

He admitted pouring gasoline from a beer can onto the shoe of the victim, then lighting it on fire. The victim suffered severe burns and nerve damage.

The victim, who attended Monday's hearing, said he would return Dec. 7.

"This is a big waste of time," he said. "I haven't received anything from him. It's going on three years. How long can he stay on probation?"

Clanton has had several violations and his probation was extended four years in April.

According to reports, he allegedly admitted drinking heavily at a bar in September. He also is nine months in arrears toward nearly $40,000 restitution and supervision fees.

Gibbons advised Clanton to bring payment Monday and plans for dealing with his drinking.
