The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Sunday through Monday evenings. Snow accumulations of up to a half foot are forecast for the Valley with 4-9 inches possible in the foothills and up to 20 inches above 7,000 feet in Mono County.
The storm will bring high winds of 15-30 mph with gust up to 40 mph. Winds over the ridges will gust up to 70 mph.
Snow and gusty winds could affect visibility. The roads will be slick through the morning commute.
According to a National Weather Service statement issued this morning, a change in the weather pattern will bring a cold air mass to Western Nevada starting Sunday night. A very cold air mass will move in behind the front on Monday, bringing temperatures down to as low as 10 degrees below 0. Highs on Tuesday may hit 15 degrees. A second storm is possible late Wednesday. While warmer than the first, it will start with snow.
There is a 30 percent chance of snow in the forecast starting at 10 a.m. today and lasting through Sunday. The high temperatures today is expected to reach 43 degrees.
