A 30-year-old Topaz Ranch Estates woman who said she drank two beers before an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony drunk driving and asked for a diversion program designed to keep her out of prison.
District Judge Dave Gamble set sentencing Jan. 19 for Lisa Rose Marie Jones who was arrested Nov. 19 after she crashed her boyfriend's vehicle into a chainlink fence and drove home.
She told deputies she drank two 12-ounce beers, went to her 12-step meeting and crashed into the fence on her way home.
"On the night of Nov. 19, I decided to drink alcohol and drive my boyfriend's truck," Jones said Tuesday. "It was a very big mistake on my part."
Jones' blood-alcohol content was .186, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Nevada. She also faces additional charges in Carson City where she earned her second DUI one month before the TRE incident.
In exchange for Jones' guilty plea, the district attorney's office agreed to recommend 12-36 months in Nevada State Prison and restitution. She is requesting admission to the DUI diversion program, designed to keep felony drunk drivers out of prison.
Under the 3-5-year program, Jones would be on house arrest for six months, supervision, counseling, unannounced search and seizure, and biweekly appearances before a district court judge to monitor her compliance. She must pay all expenses associated with the diversion.
