Temperatures are expected to be warmer today than they were when the skies cleared early Tuesday morning and the temperatures plummeted below zero.
A snowstorm dumped as much as a foot of snow in Carson Valley on Monday and sent temperatures plunging early Tuesday morning.
Record-Courier Weather Watcher Stan Kapler recorded minus 11 degrees early Tuesday, the coldest temperature in the Valley.
More than a foot of snow fell in the foothills during the storm. Sheridan Acres weather watcher George Uebele reported 12 inches of snow from Monday's storm. The snow was very dry, boiling down to .63 inches of moisture, according to Uebele.
More snow fell in the mountains, but it wasn't significantly wetter. A National Weather Service observer reported 17 inches of snow on Kingsbury Pass at Daggett Pass. The percentage moisture was 1.15 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday's weak storm will be followed by another, wetter, storm on Friday night. Forecasters say significant snowfall could be possible in the Sierra.
