Stan Paher speaks on ghost towns and railroads of Lyon, Mineral, Esmeralda and northern Nye counties at the Douglas County Historical Society's lecture of the month, 7 p.m. tonight, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
Paher gives a presentation of photographs of the route of the old Carson & Colorado Railroad and discusses his new book, "Nevada Ghost Towns & Desert Atlas, Vol. 2." The two volumes of the ghost town series give information on historic places, emigrant trails, placer gold and gemstone sites, caves, hot springs, campgrounds and recreational areas.
He is the author of books on Lake Tahoe, Death Valley, and ghost towns and mining camps in Nevada, California and Arizona.
The lecture series is on the second Thursday of the month. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3, free for historical society members.
