The R-C Morning Report

There's not nearly as much yellow on the road controls map as there has been in the past. Chains or snow tires are being required on a stretch of Highway 395 between Johnson Lane and the junction with Highway 50 west. On Highway 50 over Spooner summit. Chains or four-wheel drive is being required on Highway 88 over Carson Pass. The commute is a little slick with a bunch of motorist assists in Western Nevada, but none in Douglas County, yet.

The National Weather Service special statement issued this morning said the cold will remain through Thursday with temperatures dropping below 0 in places tonight. The daytime temperature will struggle to get up to freezing. A couple of weak systems are coming in on Thursday and Friday, and might bring light snow. A larger storm is possible Friday night and Saturday.

It's pretty cold out there. I read minus 6 on the car thermometer while driving on Genoa Lane at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night. This morning the thermometer is showing -10 degrees in Minden, in Genoa it's -7. It looks like a thick fog is in the Valley.
